Why We’re Securing Your Cited Account With Multi-Factor Authentication

September 19, 2022

At Cited, our core company values include a statement that “The privacy of data is our highest priority.” Our focus on privacy and security is one of the reasons Cited is trusted by organisations that operate in highly regulated environments around the world.

In accordance with that mindset, we are introducing increased security for access to your Cited account.

Addressing a growing cyber threat

As the use of digital technologies is on the rise, so are the number of cyber attacks across the globe. One of the most common types of cybercrime is phishing, designed to access your online accounts and steal your personal and business information.

Multi-Factor Authentication is a common and robust mechanism to protect your account from unauthorised access. Since the information within your Cited account is sensitive, it’s appropriate that we add this level of protection to keep that information secure.

For these reasons, we’re making Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) mandatory for all Cited customers, effective 3 October 2022.

A product wide change to protect your people and your business

Research shows that MFA can prevent up to 80% of data breaches. The MFA process adds an additional verification step after you enter your username and password at the login prompt. This step uses your mobile device or email account to generate an additional random code.

It’s a small but important change that significantly reduces the risk of unauthorised access to your account.

Preparing for the changes

You are probably already familiar with Multi-Factor Authentication from other applications or logins. However, if this is new to you, our team is here to support you to make it as easy as possible to access your account securely.

If you have any concerns as to how this change will affect your access to Cited or your team’s use of the platform, please contact customer support.

How it works

Step 1 – Sign into Cited as usual. Your username and password will be confirmed.

Step 2 – If your login details are correct, an additional verification code will be sent to your email address. If there is a mobile phone number associated with your account, we’ll also send the code via SMS.

Step 3 – Enter the code you received at the verification prompt on the login screen. The code expires after a short time, so ensure you enter it as soon as the code is received.
