ACIC Approval

For Organisations directly requesting Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Checks from individuals

Cited currently enables organisations to request Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Checks 3 different ways:

1. By emailing an invitation to an Individual for them to complete the application
2. By generating a URL link to be emailed or put on a website for an Individual to complete the application; and
3. By registering an individual for Monitored Compliance where they can complete an application to satisfy compliance requirements.

To be able directly request a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and automatically receive the results, the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission (ACIC) requires that we collect specific information from you before you can be approved to automatically receive results.

The ACIC requirements are as follows:

• Organisations are not allowed to submit applications on behalf of others.
• Organisations cannot directly request individuals to submit applications where the results are automatically shared without prior approval by the ACIC. This approval is a once-off process and will take between 1-5 days.
• As part of that approval, we are required to collect your organisational Privacy Statement
• Your organisation will need to agree to the terms of use for a Legal Entity Customer.

All accredited Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check providers are required to apply these changes. Failure to comply can result in the withdrawal of the “Approved” status for your organisation to automatically receive results – via all accredited providers, not just Cited.

Please note: The ability to request an individual to submit an application is still available without being approved as a Legal Entity Customer, however it will be up to the individual to share the results and as such, turnaround time cannot be controlled.
